"رهبران،
سیاستمدارن و رسانه های عزیز
شهروند مهاجری با شما سخن میگوید که بیش از سه دهه، در دنیایی
که هر روز بر تلاطم آن افزوده میگردد، این کشور را پناهگاه خود
ساخته است.
قصد دارم چند پدیده ای را که بخشی از هویت جهانی ما شهروندان
کانادایی بنا بر آنها شکل گرفته و باعث گردیده که صد ها هزار
انسان همچون من به آن مجذوب گردیم را یادآور شوم.
1- با اینکه در سال های اخیر کانادا از سنت قدیمی خود در حفظ
صلح و دیپلماسی فاصله گرفته است، هنوز هم از این نظر در جهان
در جایگاه برتری قرار داشته و مورد احترام همگان است.
2- تنوع فرهنگی و پذیرش هر ساله چند صد هزار مهاجر و پناهجو از
سراسر جهان بدون تبعیض، کانادا را الگویی برای دنیای فردا
ساخته است.
3- بیشک حاصل اراده تک تک شهروندان این کشور است که کانادا به
عنوان یکی از دموکراتیک ترین و امن ترین کشور ها در جهان به
حساب آمده که در آن بیش از ۲۰۰ زبان صحبت میشود و ده ها ملیت و
فرهنگ مختلف، در کنار هم، در صلح و آرامش زندگی میکنند.
دفاع از ملتی که مورد تخاصم قرار گرفته، نه حق، بلکه وظیفه همه
دولت هاست. تلاش برای بازگرداندن صلح و ممانعت از کشتار بیشتر
مردم بیگناه، وظیفه ای بس والاتر است
که نباید نادیده گرفته شود.
جانبداری رهبران، سیاستمداران و رسانهها در عدالتخواهی باعث
میشود که شهروندان با نیات مشابه به مخالفت با یکدیگر
بپردازند. نتیجه آن تضعیف دموکراسی و محدودیت آزادی بیانی است
که امروز شاهد آن هستیم.
ساختار کانادا آنطور که در ابتدا مطرح کردم، ایجاب میکند و این
آمادگی را دارد که بیشتر در جهت تحکیم صلح فعالیت کند. بخصوص
که در حالت خاص فجایع اخیر هر گونه تاخیر، منجر به در خون
غلطیدن تعداد بیشتری کودک، زن و مرد بیگناه میگردد.
از
شما تقاضا دارم که اختلاف نگرش ها را کنار گذاشته و در متوقف
ساختن آنچه که در آینده یکبار دیگر باعث شرم و پشیمانی بشریت
خواهد شد همسو گردیم."
Dear Leaders,
Politicians and Media,
I
address you as a migrant citizen who, for three decades, has
found refuge in this country in a world that grows more
challenging to inhabit with each passing day.
Several key factors have played a vital role in shaping our
global identity as Canadian citizens and have attracted
hundreds of thousands of people like me to this land.
1)
While in recent years Canada has shifted away from its old
tradition of maintaining peace and diplomacy, Canada still
holds a prominent position on the world stage and is widely
respected for its long-standing dedication to these
principles.
2)
Cultural diversity and welcoming hundreds of thousands of
immigrants and refugees from all over the world every year
without discrimination have made Canada a model for the rest
of the world.
3)
Canada's status as one of the most democratic and secure
countries in the world, with over 200 languages spoken and
diverse cultures living peacefully alongside each other, is
a testament to the goodwill of its citizens.
Defending their people when attacked is not a right, but a
duty of all governments. The effort to restore peace and
prevent innocent people from being killed is a far greater
task
which should not be ignored.
When leaders, politicians, and media seek justice by
choosing sides, this leads citizens with similar intentions
to oppose each other. The result is the weakening of
democracy and the restrictions on freedom of speech that we
are witnessing today.
Canada's structure, as I mentioned, requires and is more
ready to work towards the consolidation of peace.
Particularly, in the specific case of recent tragedies, any
delay leads to the tragic loss of more innocent children,
women and men.
I
beg you all to set aside differing views and come together
to stop, what may otherwise bring once again shame and
regret to humanity in the future.
